2021 Ford Ranger

What you need to know about the 2021 Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger pickup truck has a long history with us. Its first generation was successful for many decades. Then the second generation, which is much more modern, made a remarkable comeback at Canadian dealerships.

It must be said that the Ranger pickup used to be small in size. Now, with a more powerful engine and more space and capacity, it is capable of meeting the needs of the worker as well as the family.

What's new in 2021

The Ford Ranger doesn't change much with the new year. It retains its turbocharged 2.3-litre 4- cylinder engine, producing some 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. All versions send that power to all four wheels with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission.

This year, however, the Ford Ranger gets a new model, the Tremor. Already exceptional in off- road mode, the Ranger Tremor now doubles up with raised suspensions and Fox 2.0 shocks.

It's mounted on 17-inch wheels, adorned with 32-inch Continental General Grabber tires, for maximum performance on the trail. Accessories such as a winch, a light rail and an air compressor help it get over any obstacle. Note that the standard versions of the Ford Ranger are mounted on 17 or 18-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin

The 2021 Ford Ranger continues to offer one of the most comfortable interiors in the lineup. Whether it's the Supercab or Supercrew, it offers plenty of room for all occupants and plenty of storage space.

The comfort of the seats, the quality of the materials and the numerous technologies onboard make for a pleasant stay on board. In the center of the dashboard, an 8-inch screen and the optional Sync3 multifunction system. Android Auto and Apple Car Play are also integrated. This proven technology makes using voice commands a breeze.

FordPass Connect offers the ability to get wifi service to accommodate multiple devices, while the FordPass app allows access to remote unlocking or starting through your smartphone.

When it comes to safety, Ford is also banking on technology by offering the Ranger the CoPilot360 suite, which brings together blind spot alert (including trailer coverage), rearview camera, emergency brake assist and automatic high beams, among other features.

Work tool

The Ford Ranger isn't just a walker. It can also offer on-road and off-road capabilities. Properly equipped, it can tow up to 7,500 pounds (3,402 kilograms) or take on 1,650 pounds (748 kilograms) of cargo weight.

The Ranger also gets a 4WD system that can be shifted on the fly, easily going from 2WD to 4WD without stopping. The optional Terrain Management system has four distinct driving modes. You can choose from Normal/Herb/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Road or Sand modes. Trail Control, also optional, is low-speed cruise control that can be applied in all off-road conditions to maintain the pace. An electronically locking rear differential rounds out the equipment.

Whether it's for the road, work or adventure, more than ever, the 2021 Ford Ranger is the versatile pickup that will please the most demanding.
